Constitutional Conservatism
You may call it “Original Intent”, “Framers Intent”, “Strict Constructionist”, but what I believe the term “Constitutional Conservative” means, is we need to look directly at the language of the Constitution and understand just how far the judiciary, and the other two branches of government have gotten away from the real meaning of the language. Our rights are being constantly eroded, we need to wake up and fight back. Although there are hundreds of issues I could talk about in regards to the Constitution, I want to narrow it down to two: the 2nd Amendment and the 10th Amendment.
2nd Amendment:
When the Bill of Rights was adopted, the framers saw it as the means of protection for our civil liberties and individual rights from the government. First, they enumerated freedom of religion, speech, the press, assembly, and ability to petition the government. Immediately, the framers included the 2nd Amendment as liberty's sword and shield to protect these freedoms. Not suprisingly, the government has been eroding our rights for years. Laws that recognize our inalienable right to bear arms like Constitutional Carry (Vermont Style Law) will be a giant step forward in restoring and protecting our rights.
10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”.
We have seen a resurgence of the Tenth Amendment as of late. The States have been pushing back, essentially a grassroots movement, against federal overreach or inactivity. Many states like Tennessee, have drafted laws saying they will not adopt or enforce Obamacare. Arizona, has taken the lead on illegal aliens.
The national push back against the federal government has come from the State Legislatures, Colorado needs to take the lead in this fight. This is imperative if we want to pare down our State budget. We need the Feds to allow us autonomy on dealing with these out of control burdens on our state budget, like Medicare and Medicaid that are progessively eating up more of our tax dollars.
